Age Concern Barnstaple & District is concerned for the 'quality of life and the wellbeing' of older people in the local community.
We aim to improve the quality of life for older people and their carers. We seek to ensure that they maintain their self-respect and independence and enjoy freedom of choice and equal opportunities.
We work locally with and for older people providing services on a social and practical level to enable them to live in their own homes for as long as it is safe for them to do so.
We aim to raise awareness of older people's issues and influence policy at local, regional and national levels.
As an organisation Age Concern Barnstaple is committed to provide services wherever physically and financially possible, in order to encourage and support independence, promote self-esteem and dignity, while at all times promoting a positive attitude towards ageing.
In order to achieve this, Age Concern will monitor and evaluate its tasks to ensure appropriate services are provided as a response to the needs of older people. Where necessary communicate unmet areas of need to the relevant authorities. We support the 'Care in the Community Act' by offering services on an essential, practical and social level to help older people to live in their homes, for as long as they are capable to do so. We will work in partnership with the statutory organisations and members of the public, to deliver quality services wherever appropriate, in line with the aims and objectives of the organisation.
